The owners desired a relaxing outdoor retreat as an addition to their principal residence. The outdoor room would provide a modicum of shelter from the elements, allowing them to enjoy the beauty of their property without being closed off from it. The structure would also be used as the centerpiece for occassional outdoor parties. The principal form is a rotunda, open on all sides, with the roof supported by a graceful collonade. The space is anchored by a masonry fireplace at the far end. The cascading stairs sweep down to a lower level stone patio, providing additional useable space while tying in with the existing walk-out basement. The rear of the property is bordered by protected woodlands and provides for a dramatic back-to-nature view from the outdoor room.
