Nestled in a semi-urban streetscape of 40's era homes, this dwelling was in dire need of a larger kitchen and expanded living space to better meet the needs of the current owners.
The owners requested a design that would feature thoughtful design elements on par with the distinguished architectural character of the older homes in their neighborhood.
The programmatic challenge here was to work within the narrow lot constraints of the site, finding room for the desired program elements. In addition to the expanded and modernized kitchen, the owners wanted to incorporate an outdoor living space into the design, since they spend a good deal of their leisure time in the backyard. This was accomplished by providing a covered patio to blend seemlessly with the addition. It provides a relaxing atmosphere for outdoor dining and entertaining.
